Irish Arts Review - Spring 2009

‘Broken Halos’ by Dublin-based artist Leonard Sexton will be presented at the Menier Gallery, London in April by Blue Leaf Gallery. The London exhibition marks an important milestone for both the artist and the Irish gallery who have worked together for eight years. This is the first solo exhibition that Blue leaf will tour outside Ireland. The paintings were previously on exhibit in the Atrium in the OPW, Dublin for three weeks last July.

Apollo - April 2009

Dublin’s Blue Leaf Gallery is staging two exhibitions in London this month, ‘Broken Halos’ 
at the Menier Gallery (14-25 April) and ‘Expressions and Revelations’ at 3 Bedfordbury, Covent Garden (15-25 April). The former is a private collection of paintings by Leonard Sexton, loaned by a patron of Blue Leaf.

David Newton: Irish Art - 2008

Leonard Sexton has developed a new series of paintings about women with children entitled Broken Halos. The physicality of his mark-making strives to tell us about motherhood, with a reference to all mothers instead of one mother. As he works, the forms dissolve under his labour and a great hope emerges. The paintings operate around a disintegration of forms and away from high representation or a conceptual barrenness.
